Honey Grove, Texas -- Mattie Cornelia Painter, 98, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2006 at the Honey Grove Nursing Center in Honey Grove. Funeral Services will be 3:00P.M. Saturday,May 6, 2006 at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Chapel in Honey Grove, TX. Officiating will be Pastor Allan Priest and burial will follow at Dial Cemetery near Honey Grove.

Mrs. Painter was born Sept. 29, 1907 at Petty, Texas to Charles Henry and Lillie Augusta Smith Covington. She was a member of The Seventh Day Adventist Church at Yancey, Texas. She retired from the Texas Independent School System.

Survivors include her daughter and son in law, Lillie M. and Charles Smith of Yancey, Texas, 6-Grandchildren, Noel Sadau, Joel Sadau, Kevin Sadau, David Maxwell, Carla Gonzales, and Melissa Moore, 11-Great Grandchildren, 1-Great Great Grandson and several nieces & nephews.

Mrs. Painter was preceded in death by her parents, 1-Daughter, Oreata Maxwell, sister, Mary Dow Neeley, and a brother, Henry Covington.

Pallbearers will be family members.

Visitation will be from 2:00P.M. until service time at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Honey Grove.
