John Marley Services To Be Held on Tuesday

Funeral services for John Marley, 67, of 5233 Vanderbilt, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Marrs-Mundy-Quill Funeral Chapel, 3000 Maple, with Dean G. Moore officiating. Burial will be in Bonham.

Marley died Sunday at a local hospital. He was born in Dodd City, Fannin County, and came to Dallas about 1916.

He bought Marsh Music Company, which then became Marsh-Marley Music Company, and operated it until he sold it to Whittle Music Company several years ago.

He had spent most of the last four years in Arizona where he owned some mining interests.

In his younger days he trouped with many tent shows as a trumpet player, including the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus.

Although he did not play under Merle Evans, the present circus bandleader, he and Evans were old friends with Lester Harris of Dallas they formed the Chili Banquet here thirty-three years ago. This affair was an annual get-together in Dallas of trouping and ex-trouping musicians and later became nationally known.

Marley was considered to be one of the best trumpet players in this area.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ira [sic] Marley.
