Bill Forgy Has Met His Last Deadline
No longer will it be a mad rush with one eye on the clock, the other on the typewriter, one ear listening for the cry of the composing room foreman, the other glued to the phone to complete the layout and copy before the dread of all good newspapermen — the deadline — strikes.
The jangle of telephone, the roar of the press, the rhythmic click of the typewriter keys and the staccato rumble of the linotypes has been stilled.
Today Bill is in that faraway land that all good newpapermen dream of — where there is no deadline, no hurry ad no rush. He rests the rest of those who have done a job well and and heard the call of the Master of all — Enter Thou Good and Faithful Servant.
A strange quietness prevails over the desk where Bill reigned. The laugh is stilled here, but it rings out in the Great Beyond.
