Dodd City, Texas -- Funeral services for William Thel Isbell, age 89, of Dodd City, will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006 in Wise Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Sally Watson and Rev. Roy Burpo will officiate. Burial will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery near Leonard. Mr. Isbell passed away Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison.
Mr. Isbell was born August 9, 1916 in Shackelford County, Texas, the son of Arthur James Isbell and Lillie Mae George Isbell. He graduated from Albany High School in 1934 and attended business college in Fort Worth. He married Kathleen Smith, December 26, 1939 and she preceded him in death August 31, 1994 after 54 years of devoted marriage. He served in the US Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946 and was discharged in San Antonio with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Mr. Isbell began working for Dunigan Tool and Supply Company in Breckenridge, TX in April 1937 as a mail clerk and retired from the company in Abilene after 44 years of service as Vice President of Purchasing. After retiring the Isbells moved to their stock farm near Dodd City. Mr. Isbell was a charter member of John Knox Presbyterian Church in Abilene and was currently a member of First Presbyterian Church in Bonham.
He is survived by: Brother: Arthur James Isbell, Jr. and wife Vera of Buda TX; numerous nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews and great-grand-nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Wise Funeral Home from 6:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday night.
