Bonham, Texas -- Funeral services for Mr. Forrest Porter, age 91, of Bonham will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at Cooper-Sorrells Chapel in Bonham. Officiating will be Mr. Carl Dye and interment will follow in Willow Wild Cemetery. Mr. Porter passed away Sunday, April 24, 2005 in Denison, Texas.
He was born November 4, 1913 in Ector, Texas, the son of the late W. D. and Stella Louise Bryant Porter. Mr. Porter was married to Edna Earle Hope Porter and she preceded him in death on February 19, 1985. He was a lifelong rancher in Bonham and a member of the Church of Christ. Mr. Porter served in the Army Air Force during World War II with the 47th Bombardment Squadron in the Southern Pacific, including Gilbert and Marshal Islands and Okinawa. He received the American Defense Service Medal, American Theater Campaign Medal, Asian-Pacific Campaign Medal with four Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Forrest Porter is survived by children, Gary Michael Porter of Dallas, Texas, Karen Mays & husband Gary of Emory, Texas, and Ken Porter and wife Beth of Bonham; sisters, Blanche Hunter of Bonham and Helen Sims of Fort Worth, Texas; brother, Edwin Porter of Grand Prairie; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Porter was preceded in death by a brother, Weldon Porter.
Pallbearers will be nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, April 25 at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Bonham.
