All Fannin County Genealogy Reference Materials are kept behind the front counter to prevent theft. Browsing the collection is not permitted, so you must know exactly what you want to see. Spend some time with the online card catalog in advance so your library time is not spent figuring out what to ask to see. The Ancestry.com Library Edition is not always accessible. Calling ahead is advisable if your goals include the Ancestry databases.
The Bonham Library provides a valuable service to the Genealogy Community by doing look ups of obituaries on their microfilms of Bonham Newspapers. Give them a phone call/fax or send an email with the name and date required. This service is freely provided but donations are, of course, always appreciated.

Fannin county historical materials are limited but interesting at the Rayburn Library. They have a couple of rolls of microfilm of some of the earliest remaining Bonham newspapers (late 1800's). Some issues were missing and those remaining were damaged by rodents before microfilming occurred but, occassionally, something exciting can be found.
